John Denver became a star through the folk-inspired songs he composed, the majority of them located in Colorado. Born Henry John Deutschendorf Jr. in Roswell New Mexico, the singer-songwriter fell in affection with Colorado and then moved to Aspen. More than a few people traveled towards Colorado after hearing Denver's popular songs for his home state. G. Brown of Colorado Music Hall of Fame, the hall's curator of fame, said: "I don't believe there anyone else who has as much a connection to Colorado in the same way as John Denver." Denver, the Hall of Fame's initial inductee, was honoured with this honor in 2011. Today, he is the international face of Colorado. In my journeys, you come across someone on the opposite part of the globe, or someone who is from New Zealand and you say "I'm of Colorado and the first word that comes they say is Oh John Denver! Brown declared. Take Me Home Country Roads - cowritten with Bill Danoff - was Denver's first Top 10 single as a solo singer after a brief stint in small folk bands. Danoff initially wrote the song with Johnny Cash's music in mind, but Denver knew from the first time he heard earlier versions that it was going to be an instant success. The singer recorded the song only a few days afterward when he performed it in front of the awe-inspiring crowd at Washington D.C.
